POSITION SUMMARY

The Technical Trainer, Pipeline Safety Compliance is responsible for delivering highly specialized training programs focused on pipeline safety regulations, compliance requirements, and operational data integrity across the organization.  This role serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in pipeline safety compliance and is responsible for ensuring employees and contractors are fully trained and proficient in Federal and state pipeline safety regulations, Company procedures and compliance standards, and use of electronic work management systems and digital data collection tools.  The position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, compliant, and auditable field data collection practices that directly support regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and system integrity.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Delivers advanced technical training related to DOT / PHMSA pipeline safety regulations, state-specific regulatory requirements, and Company policies, procedures, and compliance expectations.
  • Delivers subject matter expert level training on Company electronic work management systems, mobile data collection platforms, and digital/Paper compliance forms and workflows.
  • Trains employees and contractors on accurate and complete documentation practices, data integrity standards required for regulatory compliance, and proper system usage to support traceable, verifiable, completed, and auditable records
  • Partners with compliance, operations, and IT teams to ensure training content reflects current system functionality, Regulatory expectations, Field execution realities.
  • Develops and maintains technical materials for training purposes (e.g. system user guides, job aids).
  • Identifies and addresses gaps in system usage that could lead to compliance risk.
  • Ensures all training aligns with current regulatory requirements and audit expectations.
  • Supports internal and external audits as needed and recommend corrective actions/training improvements based on audit findings.
  • Assists with auditing records to ensure effectiveness of training and application.
  • Assists in post incident investigations with a focus on data accuracy, procedural adherence, and training effectiveness.
  • Conducts training in both classroom and field environments.
  • Travels across the company footprint to train employees/contractors and support the rollout of new systems or compliance initiatives.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The team member in this role will:

  • Serve as an Individual Contributor without supervisory responsibilities.
  • Support and contribute towards team goals and objectives.
  • Performs work with limited direction and applies seasoned professional knowledge to complex and diverse assignments, exercises judgment in resolving issues, makes significant contributions to department goals and planning efforts, and may coordinate aspects of work performed by others.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES 

  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to a diverse audience in a clear and concise manner
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain organization and efficiency in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment
  • Proven capability to manage multiple training initiatives and priorities simultaneously
  • Strong technical writing skills, with experience developing and updating job aids and instructional materials
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state pipeline safety regulations and compliance requirements
  • Comprehensive understanding of gas distribution and transmission systems, gas measurement, field metering services, and/or tapping and stoppling operations
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to quickly learn and effectively utilize company work management systems, mobile workforce technologies, and data collection tools (digital and paper-based)
  • Exceptional attention to detail, particularly in maintaining accurate and compliant documentation

 

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, education, or closely related field -and-
  • At least five (5) years of experience in pipeline inspection, pipeline compliance, training, documentation management, or closely related field, preferably in the gas industry

– OR –

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent -and-
  • At least nine (9) years of experience in pipeline inspection, pipeline compliance, training, documentation management, or closely related field, preferably in the gas industry
  • Industry certifications (e.g. API, AMPP, AWS, OSHA) preferred
  • SAP and GIS experience preferred

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS     

The ideal candidate must be able to complete the following physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation:

  • Remain stationary for extended periods, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities.
  • Lift, push, and/or pull up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
  • Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery as necessary.
  • Communicate with others to accurately exchange information and ideas.
  • Hear sufficiently to allow general and phone communications.
  • Visual acuity to read standard text on screens and documents, observe surroundings, recognize hazards, and perform tasks safely.
  • Observe details at close range. 
  • Problem solves, prioritizes tasks, and interprets and understands written documents.

 

WORK CONTEXT 

  • This is a full-time exempt salaried position
  • Minimum travel for work-related purposes is expected at 50%, which includes some overnight visits to locations and industry events.
